Green Cleaning: DIY Earth-Friendly Cleaners

by admin

green-cleaning_recipe-6520238When it comes to cleaning our homes there are many different DIY recipes for eco-friendly home cleaners. Making your own cleaning products not only saves you money but they are also earth-friendly, given they are made without chemicals. Using common household goods can create green cleaning products that are tough on cleaning and safe to our lungs and planet. You will be amazed at the cleaning power behind baking soda and vinegar!

Here are my favorite homemade green cleaning products and recipes.

{Green Glass Cleaner}
You need…

  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 cup water

Mix together in a spray bottle and use to clean windows. If you are not a big fan of vinegar, you can increase the lemon juice to cover the vinegar smell.

{Green All-Purpose Cleaner}
You need…

  • 1 2/3 cup of baking soda
  • 1/2 cup of castile soap (sold in most stores with other soaps)
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 2 tbsp of vinegar
  • Bottle with Flip Top

Mix the baking soda and soap in a bowl with a fork. Mix in the water and the vinegar last. Once all mixed, put into your squeezable bottle and shake well. If the mixture is really think you can add additional water.

{Green Drain Cleaner}
You need…

  • 1/2 baking soda
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • boiling water

For a stopped up drain, pour baking soda into the drain and then the vinegar. Let it sit in the drain and fizz for several minutes. While the mixture fizzes, boil a half gallon of water. When your water comes to a boil, pour it down the drain. You can repeat if needed. NOTE: Do not use after commercial drain cleaners have been used.

If you would like to add some scent to your cleaners, simply add a few drops of your favorite essential oil.

{Green Pet Carpet Cleaner}
You need…

To remove pet stains from carpet such as urine, add 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water into the steam machine. Steam clean carpets as usual with just water and vinegar. The vinegar breaks down the urine smell left in carpet.
