Everyone at some point has to buy laundry detergent; we all need clean clothes. Aside from known eco-friendly laundry detergent makers, have you ever thought about the ingredients of conventional laundry power and the effect it could have on not only our bodies but the environment?

Most store bought laundry detergent is packed full of chemicals that can be harmful to the body and chemicals that are not environmentally friendly. Often those same chemicals can cause skin irritation and clothes to fade.

Even using store bought laundry detergent can take a toll on the environment with all the plastic containers. The laundry containers consume energy to produce the plastic and if not recycled end up in a landfill.

So what’s the answer the detergent issue? Make your own it’s cheaper and eco-friendly! Here is a quick do-it-yourself recipe for making your own eco-friendly laundry detergent.

Eco-friendly Laundry Detergent Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 bar of pure-castile soap
  • 1/2 cup of borax
  • 1/2 cup of baking soda
  • Cheese Grater
  • Resealable container to hold your detergent

Directions

  • Grate bar of soap into your container you will be using.
  • Mix in the borax and baking soda.

To Use

Use 1 tbsp. for small or lightly soiled loads and 2 tbsp. for large or heavily soiled loads.
